5 Ways To Protect Your Eyes In Summer

5 Ways to Protect Your Eyes This Summer From Our Clarksville and Elkton Optometrists

When summer arrives, we all love heading outdoors and into the water for fun, relaxation, and good times. This summer you can be sure to have fun while taking a few safety precautions when it comes to your eyes. Our Elkton and Clarksville optometrists compiled this comprehensive list of five summer safety tips for your eyes to help you stay healthy and enjoy all of the fun in the sun.

1. Sunglasses and Ultra Violet Rays

Tinted lenses do not protect your eyes from UV rays. Polarized sunglasses lenses which filter both UVA and UVB will protect your corneas from sunburn. Good coverage is also important; small-sized frames expose eyes to UV rays.

2. Yard and House Work

Cleaning up the yard and tackling house projects put eyes at risk. Always wear protective eye gear when handling chemicals or power tools.

3. Outdoor Sports

When participating in outdoor sports, wear the necessary protective eye gear and be alert for golf balls on the course and fishing hooks on the water.

4. Chemicals

If you plan a trip to the local pool, don't forget your goggles to protect your eyes from chlorine and other harmful chemicals found in the water, sunscreen, and bug spray.

5. Fireworks

If you attend a Fourth of July party, don't take your eyes off of the fireworks. Stay alerted to protect your eyes from injury.
